I’m back! It seems like post-kidnapping, I’ve taken a break from everything, and my blog has been neglected. I am so sorry
blog. Now that things are starting to seem a little more normal, I can continue to do things that I like to do.
What’s bothering me lately is this new Burger King commercial that features Sir Mixalot and Spongebob. While this is a strange pairing to begin with, Mixalot is singing along to his hit, “Baby Got Back”, but with altered lyrics: “I like square butts and I cannot lie” Yeah, yeah…whatev. Seems like someone was broke and is trying to live off the fame of his one hit.
However…
Does anyone else think that this commercial just does not fit at all? At the end, Sir Mixalot is with two scantily clad women (with LA faces and Oakland booties) saying, “Booty is booty.” What the hell does that mean? There are women dancing in tight shorts with square things stuck in them. I’m thinking that this commercial is aimed at adults, who would know “Baby Got Back” or the sexual implications of “booty” until Sir Mixalot mentions a ”kid’s meal”.
WHAT?
I’d hate to see the “prize” in that ‘kid’s meal’.
Sure, kids know the word “booty” and they think it’s funny. I thought for a second that “booty” could be a play off of the general pirate theme that shows up in Spongebob Squarepants occasionally, but there’s no treasure or pirates to be found in the commercial. Young kids don’t know Baby Got Back, and it’s a pretty adult song.
Next thing you know, we’ll have 7-year-olds calling 1-900 MIXALOT and kickin’ those nasty thoughts.
EDIT: Guess I’m not alone. This made Yahoo! News today. I guess there’s also a letter writing campaign against it, and Burger King is claiming it’s ad is aimed at adults. Oh, yeah, and it’s sponsored by Nickelodeon. Because toys and kid’s meals appeal to adults. Stick with the creepy-smiley king head guy, folks.
